Every time you swipe your Carbon Zero credit card, we automatically receive a portion of the standard credit card fee paid by the merchant. These fees are then used to fund industry-leading forestry and carbon capture projects throughout the United States and around the world, thereby offsetting the negative impact of your spending. Whereas your everyday spending increases your carbon footprint, our rewards system automatically neutralizes your carbon footprint to achieve a Carbon Zero lifestyle.

A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact your activities have on the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) produced through the burning of fossil fuels. A carbon footprint is expressed as a weight of CO2 emissions produced in tonnes.

For each transaction, we multiply the amount of your transaction by the carbon intensity of the merchant category (i.e. restaurant, grocery store, gas station, etc) to provide the most accurate and custom carbon footprint calculation possible. 

You can neutralize your carbon footprint by offsetting as much CO2 as you generate. The neutralization of your carbon footprint is possible through carbon offsetting. 

Carbon offsetting is the reduction of emissions in one place to compensate for emissions made in another place. Carbon offsets provide transparent and quantifiable climate impact, measuring how much carbon was reduced for each dollar spent. 

There are over 200 different methods for generating carbon offset credits, which can come in three different varieties:

• Reductions – Incentivizing today’s polluters to pollute less
• Avoidance – Rewarding new development for building with sustainable practices that avoid future carbon emissions
• Removal – Removing existing pollution from the atmosphere with carbon capture and sequestration. (Also known as “negative emissions”)

By investing your rewards points into carbon offsetting projects, you can neutralize the negative environmental effects of your spending.
